Inferring – 3 Books and Lessons to Teach Inferring

Looking for ideas on how to teach students all about making inferences as they read books?  Check out the three mini-lesson statements and watch the video to get more ideas on how to teach inferring with three specific books.
Here is a chart with three mini-lesson statements and examples of how to frame your whole class discussion.  Fill out your charts with these organizers as you discuss each book with the class!
One Green Apple is a beautifully written story about a girl named Farah who moved to America
knowing very little English.  She is on a field trip to an apple orchard with her new class and learns that she has more in common with them than she originally thought.

Water Hole Waiting is set in the Savannah safari and told from the perspective of a young, impatient monkey and his mother, both waiting for their safe turn to get water at the water hole.  There are lots of opportunities to make inferences about why the monkeys must be careful and wait!

Tuesday is a wordless picture book about frogs leaving the pond and taking flight through the town at night!  Without words, it's a great book to teach inferring skills!
