THE FOLLOWING VIDEOS SHOW MINILESSONS DURING A PERSONAL NARRATIVE READING AND WRITING UNIT.
I am working with a fifth grade class on writing personal narratives. The focus in both lessons was on finding inner voice. Hopefully these lessons will help teachers see the close connection between reading and writing. By teaching the same types of strategies in both workshops, I was able to show students how to identify inner voice as a reader and also how to apply inner voice in their own personal narratives. The month-long reading and writing unit In which these lessons can be found is available at my TpT store for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.
READING WORKSHOP: FINDING THE AUTHOR'S INNER VOICE AS A READER
THE FOLLOWING THREE VIDEOS SHOW THE WRITER'S WORKSHOP PROCESS
STEP ONE: THE MINI LESSON
In this video I am working with a fourth grade class on writing memoirs. They are revising their work. The lesson focuses in on using their inner voice to show emotion in their writing.
STEP TWO: INDEPENDENT WORK AND WRITING CONFERENCES
This video is of a writing conference. It is kind of hard to hear, but if you listen carefully you care hear the student talking about her plans to add emotion and fix parts of her memoir that are not working.
STEP THREE: THE SHARE
The students worked hard on adding inner voice to their writing during the independent writing time. As students were writing, I was meeting with students in individual conferences. We focused on adding inner voice to their writing.
