You want to provide the very best lessons for your students every day, but it becomes quickly overwhelming to find everything you need?
I feel you. As a classroom teacher, I often scrambled for resources that fit what I needed for the day.
I was that teacher who was the first car in the parking lot every morning. I'd spend a solid 45 minutes searching the internet or my trusty old filing cabinet for that magical lesson that would make reading or writing extra amazing that day.
It was super stressful to always be on the hunt for the next best thing.
But, I knew my students deserved the best, so I kept hunting.
I continued this pattern for years as a classroom teacher. Then I earned my master's degree in reading and became a literacy coach.
I was now in the position to help teachers avoid these pitfalls that I fell into year after year.
I could help.
That's when I decided to start writing.
In the summer of 2011, I sat down and wrote reading and writing month-long units of study for teachers in my building. I spent the entire summer writing. Some days I even forgot to shower...NO. JOKE. LOL
All that effort was worth it though when I returned to school in the fall. I got to share the units with the teachers I was working with and they were ECSTATIC.
To know that I could help my teachers avoid those common struggles made all the time and effort that summer totally worth it.
And then, of course, I was hooked! I couldn't stop writing.
I spent the 2012-2013 school year writing more units. 10 in total. By the end of the year, I was exhausted from working full time and writing every night and weekend. But, I was so fully satisfied in knowing that I was helping the teachers I cared so much about.
Since that year I haven't stopped creating lessons for teachers. Now I am honored to help teachers not only in that one building but around the world.
