Are you looking to ensure your literacy centers are a time where ALL students are working on reading skills at their instructional levels?
Check out how you can implement The Reading Intervention Program into your literacy centers!
STEP ONE: Pick a reading focus.
I like to set up literacy centers so that I have students focusing on one of the 4 main reading skills, fluency, comprehension, word work, or vocabulary. You can choose to set up just one center, or 4 centers with an individual focus for each one.
STEP TWO: Set up the Centers.
- Use the center direction pages in this Free Download to display the routine for each center.
- Print intervention passages on different colored paper so that they are differentiated. This way you can tell the kids to choose passages on green paper to read (for example) without have the level ranges for everyone to see.
- Print any extension activities you would like the students to use at each station.
For example:
Green paper: Level E-G passages
Orange paper: Level H-K passages
Yellow paper: Level L-P passage
STEP THREE: Practice and Model each Center.
Before sending kids to try out the centers on their own, practice, practice, practice. You can spend a day showing students what is expected of them at each center. That way, there will be no excuse for the centers to run smoothly!
THAT'S IT! I hope you and your student enjoy using The Reading Intervention Program and can implement them into your literacy centers!
